She’s taught oboe master classes throughout the United States and has built both her teaching and playing careers on versatility, making the oboe and its music accessible to almost any audience. She also teaches English horn and oboe d’amore. Her Oboe of the World CD and her Sonic Forest CD are acclaimed as “groundbreaking!” and she is acknowledged as an “oboe advocate.”
Brenda plays and teaches classical music including baroque to modern, orchestral, solo and chamber repertoire. She focuses not only on how to play the music, but most importantly, on how to play the oboe. How to evaluate and adjust oboe reeds is integrated into every lesson, and ultimately, how to make reeds can be included. For students who wish to expand their repertoire, she will, in appropriate situations, also teach American Songbook, progressive jazz, Celtic, world and improvised music. She is happy to assist with auditions, college applications, advice and suggestions. Brenda performs in concert halls, museums, churches, universities, schools, night clubs, at corporate events, jazz and world music festivals, county fairs, shopping malls, senior and drug rehabilitation centers, and outdoor events throughout the United States and in Europe, Indonesia, Costa Rica and East Africa. She’s a soloist, recording artist, chamber and orchestral musician who free-lances throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. You can hear Brenda regularly, in performances of diverse repertoire, with her multi-instrumental ensemble Sonic Forest and locally in orchestral performances with Marin Oratorio and The Dominican Chorale.
